Frozen Films Favorite Movies Of 2011

Welcome to my selection of favorite movies of 2011…ok, i know, you don’t see Drive’s poster among the images above and you all loved it to death, and i did too, i swear, it’s just that those four films touched me a little bit more then Drive did.
‘The Kid With A Bike’ by Dardenne brothers and ‘A Separation’, the iranian drama masterpiece by totally unknown (but truly gifted) director Asghar Farhadi, really deserve a special mention. The first one is absolutely my favorite Dardenne’s ‘common people lives’ movie; even if almost every single film by the two belgian brothers could be considered a milestone in moden drama (they’ve won two Palme D’Or in 1999 and 2005), The kid With A Bike is just easier to empathise with and hits harder than everything else. The last scene, in which the boy Cyril fells from the top of a tree, just freezes your blood for a minute or two, wow..that’s the true power of cinema. A Separation (definitely my favorite movie of 2011 if i’d have to choose one) is an apparently simple story about a divorcing young iranian couple and about all the problems they have to face to go on. At first it might seem like a very basic plot i know, but then it twists & turns and believe me, it’s definitely one of the most emotionally powerful movie in recent years. Another absolutely exceptional movie is ‘The Artist’ by french director Michel Hazanavicius, a nostalgic silent film which fits terribly good among modern movies..it’s magical, it just stuns you. ‘Shame’ is my fourth choice..extremely high class cinematography, acting, and a delicious nightly atmosphere. Both films by Steve McQueen (this one and Hunger) are about prisony but while Hunger takes place in an actual british prison, Shame’s prisony is far more subtle, haunting and in a certain way, electrifying.
Other fantastic movies i’ve enjoyed are: Take Shelter, Carnage, The Descendants, Drive, Moneyball, Tiker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, J. Edgar, Beginners, Warrior, Habemus Papam, This Must Be The Place, The Tree Of Life, Midnight In Paris, The Ides Of March, Margin Call, Contagion, Source Code..
Movies i’d really like to watch: Faust, Once Upon A Time In Anatolia, A Simple Life, Le Havre, Hugo Cabret, Alps, Haywire, Rampart, A Burning Hot Summer..
Movies i didn’t like even if critics loved them: The Turin Horse, Melancholia.
Thanks for following and happy holiday!
